The Niigata Bandaijima Art Museum

The Niigata Bandaijima Art Museum opened in July of 2003 as a branch of the Niigata Prefectural Museum of Modern Art. The museum's mission is as follows: to collect contemporary art works, especially those dating from 1945 onwards; to actively introduce not only Western art but also Asian art, especially from neighboring countries and regions such as Korea, China, and the Russian Far East; and to support artists who live in or have a connection with Niigata prefecture.

  The Works of Yoko Imoto in Picture Books
April 22 - June 19, 2011
From adults to children, picture books by Yoko Imoto are cherished by people of all ages. This exhibition showcases about 240 of her works for books and children's song animations for TV programmes.

Seiji Fujishiro Exhibition
July 2 - October 10, 2011
Seiji Fujishiro(b. 1924 in Tokyo) is the pioneer of kage-e, or shadowgraphs, in Japan. This exhibition showcases his fantastic works in Niigata for the first time in four years. Please enjoy the beautiful harmony of light and shadow.

In the Age of Klee and Kandinsky. From The Miyagi Museum of Art and Utsunomiya Museum of Art Collections
October 22 - December 11, 2011
Klee and Kandinsky, two great painters, contributed greatly to the art of the first half of the 20th century. From Jugendstil to Expressionism to Bauhaus, this exhibition showcases various art movements in the German speaking world through works on loan from the Miyagi Museum of Art and the Utsunomiya Museum of Art.
